Who can apply for compensation?

If you lived, worked, or went to school in Anderson, Roane, or Morgan Counties for at least 2 years before being diagnosed with a qualifying cancer, you may be eligible. If the person has passed away, their spouse or children may also qualify for a portion of the payment.

Which cancers are included?

Eligible cancers include adult leukemia, multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and primary cancers of the thyroid, breast, esophagus, stomach, pharynx, small intestine, pancreas, bile ducts, gall bladder, salivary gland, urinary bladder, brain, colon, ovary, bone, kidney, liver (with some exceptions), and lung.

Do I need proof of radiation?

No. You only need to show that the person was present in the covered area for at least 2 years before the cancer diagnosis. There’s no requirement to prove the cancer was caused by radiation.

How much could I receive?

Eligible individuals may receive a $50,000 payment from the federal government. If the person has passed away, their spouse or children may be eligible for a share of $25,000.

What are the attorney fees?

Attorneys can only charge up to 2% of the total payment, and only if your claim is successful. If the claim is not successful, attorneys may only recover costs related to filing the claim.
